How Much Is This Going To Cost?

Whether your project is big or small, simple or complex, one of the first, and most important, questions associated with any construction project is: "How much is this going to cost?"

If you're a developer, facility manager, commercial property owner, homeowner, church/school  or contractor you will want to avoid wasting time and money on any proposed development or remodeling project.

The very first thing that you need to develop for any successful project is a budget to control your costs. It is not difficult to understand the importance of having a good budget at the beginning of a project. What is often difficult is determining how to get an accurate initial budget without spending a fortune doing so!

It is important to understand that budgeting is not a one-time task. Rather, it is an on-going process throughout the life of your project. Most projects end up developing several budgets. The initial budget is probably the most important and difficult to create for the following reasons:

      1. The initial budget is typically required to request money for a project. If this budget is inaccurate, you may be required to request more money at a future date and that can be problematic.
      2. Detailed construction drawings are usually not available when an initial budget is prepared; therefore, the initial budget is often prepared with the least amount of information.

These reasons can create a fundamental problem: it is sort of a "chicken or the egg" thing. You want an accurate initial budget without spending a lot of time and money. You don't want to waste money on design fees if you cannot ultimately afford the project. But how can you prepare an accurate budget without detailed plans?

You can see the dilemma!  To assist you with this predicament, G&M has developed a unique budgeting system that allows us to establish a realistic budget with only a minimal initial investment.  Our Budget Report is more than just a simple cost-estimate, it is a valuable planning and development tool!
